Windows XP has been configured to allow 10 TCP connections at any given time. Due to this lower number connections allotment, users won’t be able to download files at a higher speed. If you really want to download files faster while on Windows XP operating system, you need to patch EventID 4226. By using TCP/IP 4226 patcher for Windows XP, you can increase the half open connections limit to 50, resulting in more TCP connections and faster download speed.
Windows XP has no corresponding regkey where you can edit the value to change the TCP connections numbers. We need to manually edit the TCIP.SYS file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and C:\WINDOWS\SERVICEPACKFILES\I386 directories. Once we use the Event ID 4226 patch, it will modify the pre-configured 10 half open connections to 50. This patch works on Windows XP SP2 (from RC2 upwards) or Windows 2003 Server SP1 beta.
All you have to do is download Windows XP patcher and run it. During installation, a new TCIP.SYS file will patch the old one and as the result the new half open connections number will be effective from next system restart. Do note that in case of any conflicts, the patcher can be reversed and the old TCIP.SYS file can be restored.
