Many laptop or desktop users in India are using the GPRS offer from Airtel to connect to internet. Airtel GPRS schemes come at a very reasonable rate with 24×7 access. There are several data plans being offered, depending upon the usages limit. However, many users face problem in connecting the computer and mobile GPRS to access internet. Airtel does not provide any technical assistance to help users and hence this tutorial will help you in making internet connection using Airtel GPRS. This tutorial will follow all installation and settings procedures.
First things first. Call Airtel customer care (121) to activate GPRS on your handset. You need to have a minimum balance of Rs. 250 to activate GPRS on your handset, and from the second month onwards Rs. 250 will automatically get deducted from your balance every month towards monthly GPRS charges. Once you place the request, it will take 2-3 days to get it activated on your phone. Once GPRS gets activated, you will get Airtel GPRS settings on your mobile phone, save the settings and enable them.
Before you proceed, make sure that you have got a mobile phone with GPRS activated, a data cable to connect the mobile phone to the desktop or laptop and a desktop or laptop. You can also use your phone’s bluetooth or infrared features to connect to the system.
Internet Connection using Airtel GPRS
- Install data cable driver on your system (data cable driver or mobile software comes in a CD)
- Browse the phone software and double click on it to run
- Find the internet settings options and enable those options with the following settings :
- Connecting Device : Your mobile modem
- ISP Name : Airtel
- Phone Number : Your mobile number
- Username : Blank (Don’t write anything)
- Password : Blank (Don’t write anything)
- Click connect to connect to Airtel GPRS
- You are done.
The maximum speed you can get using Airtel GPRS is 115.2 KBPS (according to Airtel), but in reality the speed is much much slower. It will take unbearable time to open a website. So, it’s always a better idea to go for Reliance GPRS or some broadband plans.
