How to Move to a New House Safely and Efficiently

Moving to a new home is a big deal. It’s a time for new beginnings, new stories, and a new life. Unfortunately, before you can start enjoying all that “new” you need to pack up and move all of the “old”. This entire process can be incredibly frustrating, exhausting, and even backbreaking. To avoid all that stress, use these tips to move to your new home safely and efficiently.

Start Early and Pack Slowly

Stress packing is the worst thing that you can do. Start early, even before you have sold your house. You can begin first by going through everything and removing the items you never use and that you don’t want to bring with you. Once all that clutter is out of the way, you can then start to pack up the items you don’t need to have out and store them in your basement or even in a storage unit. You’ll be able to have more successful open houses this way and be well on your way to having your home packed up.

Create a Spreadsheet and Packing System

You should have some sort of packing system in place. Why? Because it is a lot easier to distribute boxes to the right room when moving in — and then unpack room by room — rather than having a huge pile in your front living room you need to sort through and unpack.

Create a spreadsheet, write on the boxes, use colors — the options are yours, but do try to keep some semblance of order so you can unpack easily and stress-free.

Spread Out the Weight of Boxes

You don’t want anyone, even professional movers, to run the risk of throwing out their back picking up a deceptively heavy box. Try to distribute the weight of heavy items between boxes, and if a box is still heavy, remember to write a warning on the box.

Have Someone Else Handle Transporting Your Belongings

Though it is entirely possible to physically drive your moving vehicles and personal cars all the way to your new home, it’s only really doable if you are moving an hour or two at most away from your old property. If you are moving to the other side of the country, or even just to another state, then you will need a different solution.

A full-service moving company can handle the entire process on your behalf. This applies both to your personal belongings all the way to the biggest ticket items in your possession: your vehicles. Car home delivery can be done door to door; you just need to make sure that the company has a vast network of verified drivers, have tracking enabled, and that they will insure your belongings for the trip.

With all that covered, you would be able to easily hop on a flight and enjoy exploring your new home while you wait for your movers to arrive. It’s easy, stress-free, and far safer.

Unpack, Slow and Steady

It can be exciting to unpack and have everything ready in your new home, but don’t try to do it all at once. Go box-by-box so that you can keep order without all your belongings out in the open with as of yet nowhere to go. Take your time and enjoy the experience of moving in instead.
