New Baby? How to get your confidence back on track

After you’ve had a baby, your whole life changes. You expected this to happen; your baby’s care must be placed at the top of your priority list. However, many women are shocked how their confidence plummets after having a baby – this is not something they signed up for!

When you are used to the routine of going to work and being in the company of colleagues all day, it can be lonely and isolating when you are at home with an infant, and your confidence can plummet. So, what can you do to get yourself back on track?

Buy some clothes that fit

OK, so you’ve gained a few pounds with your pregnancy, and while you may be in a rush to lose them, slow down. Your body has taken nine months to create and nourish the baby, and it will take at least that time again to return to your pre-baby body.

In the meantime, you may be tempted to squeeze into your pre-pregnancy clothes, but all this does is make you feel frumpy. Invest in some clothes that fit you. It doesn’t have to be a whole closet worth of garments – just some key pieces: a good pair of jeans, a flattering sweater, and a shirt. Join baby groups

When you are home during the day, your usual support network (friends and family) are most likely at work, and so are unable to see you. Joining baby groups is the solution.

You may feel that your baby is too young to gain any benefit from going to baby classes, and yes, that is true. However, going to baby groups can be a great way to get out and meet other Moms in the same situation as you.

Do some exercise

You might not be able to commit to exercise classes with a young baby, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do exercise. Get the baby wrapped up warm in their pram or stroller and go for a brisk walk each day. Exercise is not only a great way to shift those extra pregnancy pounds, but it’s essential to get your body releasing endorphins. Endorphins are the feel-good hormones your body naturally releases in response to exercise.

Get a good haircut

If you look good on the outside, it makes you feel good on the inside. When was the last time you had a good hair cut? A good hair cut is one that leaves your hair needing less styling on a day-to-day basis. You simply don’t have the time to invest in grooming, so see it as an investment. Your stylist will be able to shape your hair into a more manageable style.

Having a baby is an exciting time, but the transition into motherhood can make you feel that you have lost your identity and make you feel isolated. Join baby groups to make new friends who are also about during the day and take control of your mind, body, and soul.
