Top tips for making your home super cozy this winter season

With winter just around the corner in the northern hemisphere, we are fast approaching the season of log fires, knitted jumpers, thick socks, and hot cocoa. With most of us spending more time at home this year than usual, it’s especially important to make sure your house is feeling extra cozy for the cold weather. So, grab your most comfortable chunky sweater from the closet, put the kettle on for that hot cocoa, and read our top tips for transforming your home into a snuggly winter hideaway. You’ll be feeling warmer in no time!

Deal with any draft issues

The first thing to do is put a stop to any problems you have with drafts and cold air in your home. Two of the key places to check are around your external doors and windows, as this is often where most of the heat is lost from a property. Investing in new windows can be expensive, but will save you money on heating bills in the long run. For a lower-cost solution, you could buy draft excluders that sit at the foot of the door to stop cold winds swirling in or hot air from escaping.

Upgrade your heating

Another option to keep your home toasty and warm is to upgrade your heating system, especially if your current one is quite old. For example, you could invest in a heat pump system as a more efficient alternative to traditional heating systems, which also have a lower carbon footprint. If you’ve been considering purchasing a new heating system for your home for a while, this year could be the perfect time to do so.

Create a cozy atmosphere with a real fire

There are few things more cozy than a real, roaring fire. As well as creating a warm and romantic atmosphere, they can also be a very efficient way of heating your home and are surprisingly easy to install. If you’d rather not splash out on having a full fireplace, you can get smaller electric fireplaces that can be mounted on a wall, or even a portable one. As a much cheaper and easier alternative, you could simply buy some candles and use them to add a little spark of light to any room. You could even get some winter-themed scented ones!

Buy cushions and throws to snuggle up with

Everyone knows winter evenings are for cuddling up on the couch with a good movie, an interesting book, a glass of wine, and of course, your loved ones. To make this scene even cozier, consider buying some super soft cushions to relax on or a warm, fuzzy blanket to snuggle under. They can also add a splash of color to your living room, brightening it up even as the days get darker. If you have wooden flooring, consider adding a plush rug over the top to make the space look warmer and also feel warmer on your bare feet. Perfect!
